Province invests $1 million in new Jewish community centre in Edmonton

Edmonton, AB - The Jewish Federation of Edmonton is proud to announce a major milestone in the development of the city’s new Jewish Community Centre (JCC), with a $1 million grant from the Government of Alberta through the Community Facility Enhancement Program (CFEP) Large.

A media event was held today to mark the official cheque presentation by Alberta Minister Tanya Fir, celebrating the provincial government’s support for this vital community initiative.

The new JCC, located at 14205–109 Avenue, is a $6 million project that will serve as a secular hub for the Jewish community. The building, formerly known as the Boy Scouts facility, was purchased outright by the Jewish Federation of Edmonton and is being transformed into a vibrant space for connection, culture, and community.

The facility will feature a teen lounge, café, event and meeting spaces, and will host a variety of programs that reflect the diversity and vitality of Edmonton’s Jewish population.

“This generous support from the Government of Alberta helps us realize our vision of a welcoming, inclusive space where people of all backgrounds can gather, learn, and celebrate,” says Stacey Leavitt-Wright, CEO of the Jewish Federation of Edmonton. “The new JCC will be a cornerstone for community life and a symbol of resilience and renewal.”

The CFEP Large program provides financial assistance between $125,000 and $1 million to upgrade, expand, purchase, or build arts, cultural, heritage, recreational, sport, or other public-use community facilities.

The Jewish community in Edmonton has not had a community centre since the former building in Rio Terrace closed and the land was sold in 2012. Projected opening date for the new JCC is 2026.
