Jewish Federation

of Edmonton

The ideals that motivate Federations are the precious heritage of our Jewish people. Our parents and grandparents brought these ideals to this country and we are charged with keeping them alive to hand on to our children and grandchildren. United and diverse, traditional and innovative, giving and accepting, the Jewish Federation of Edmonton celebrates the uniqueness of its members and, like a family, care for their own.

Helping People Help Themselves
Whether we're offering people a way out of their financial distress, or helping someone to realize a lifelong dream, our recipients maintain dignity and self-sufficiency as they repay their interest free loans.
Our Funds Are Recycled...
The donations we receive from individuals in the Jewish community are used to make loans to people in need. Then, as people repay their loans, we are able to provide loans to other individuals.

As a run-up to the event, we will be showcasing Tikun Olam projects offered by our various Jewish organizations here in Edmonton throughout the year in this space. Beth Shalom Tikkun Olam Committee is asking for your help in collecting much needed items for the Bissell Centre. It's hard being homeless. This is especially true in the fall and the winter season, when the homeless are at an increased risk of developing dangerous cold-related illnesses. Help them stay warm by donating these life-saving items: Hats, Socks, Scarves, Coats/Jackets, Mittens/Gloves.
The items can be new or used, for men, women and children.
The collection bin is located at Beth Shalom Synagogue next to the Social Hall (lower auditorium). We thank everybody who is helping us to make the world a better place!

Lulav and Etrog
One of the special mitzvahs of Sukkot is to recite a blessing on the "The Four Kinds", a citron, a palm branch, three myrtle twigs, and two willow branches.
We hold them close together, we recite a blessing over them and, as is customary, wave them to all the four sides and upward and downward.
If you would like to purchase your own set this year, please contact Rabbi Dovid.
